Best Retirement Jobs For Over 5o People
Being over 50 I know too well how difficult it can be if you’re looking at getting back in the workforce. After some extensive research on the subject, I found that it isn’t the fact that there aren’t jobs for people over 50, it’s the fact that most of the jobs we find we are either underqualified or overqualified for. If you’re looking to work in an the fast food or retail industry, be prepared to find jobs that are taken by people in their 20’s and 30’s. Sure, there are exceptions to the rule and some older folks are actively working these jobs but we don’t know how long they have been there or how long they will last.
On the other side of the spectrum we have people who are seeking jobs that they are no longer able to do but once were like me as an electrician. At 56 I no longer feel I can do this work safely so I don’t even bother applying. And being a veteran of the Marine Corps really gets me nowhere because I was so young when I was in. And those are my skills, manual labor jobs which now if I’m honest, I can no longer do without some serious chances of getting ill or injured.
Maybe you’re in the same boat as I found myself. Unemployed and living the best I can as a person over 50. After a bout of meningitis in my mid 40’s I quit working and had to file disability. As heartbreaking as it was for me to do this, it gave me the time to focus on myself and not on making ends meet by depending on a company for a paycheck.
About 5 years ago I was working as a blogger writing content for people and making a few bucks here and there through Paypal. It wasn’t a lot but it was enough to buy some small stuff I wanted to make my life bearable. I didn’t know what the articles I wrote were being used for but after some digging found out they were used for affiliate marketing websites to drive traffic to the website. I found this interesting, did some more digging and eventually got into the affiliate industry myself thinking I would just write my own content and maybe, just maybe make more than just writing content.
And that’s what I did and now I promote the platform that I started learning affiliate marketing with.
Wealthy Affiliate. A Place To Learn Success
The platform I chose to learn affiliate marketing on was Wealthy Affiliate. This is a website that helps people of all ages get moving in the right direction as affiliate marketers. It’s not anything that’s so over the top amazing that I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of it before but it was a platform that taught me the basics of affiliate marketing.
Why did I choose this platform to learn a new skill? Because the real workforce was not happening for me anymore. I had to accept that and let it go. But, I wanted to learn something new and since I was already writing content for other bloggers in the affiliate industry I figured, why not. Let’s see if this old dog can learn a new trick.
It’s been over four years since I joined Wealthy Affiliate and I learned a ton especially during my first couple of years. I learned how to write more effectively, to market through my articles and I learned that yes, I could learn something new.
Wealthy Affiliate has everything you need to get started building a new affiliate marketing website. It has the site builder, the research tool, the domain and hosting. It has tech support and a member based chat. It also has hundreds of training modules to learn the various aspects of affiliate marketing.
It would be great if the platform was completely free. But, they have to stay in business themselves so I respect that. They have a free membership that you can use all of the Premium membership benefits for a full week and then keep with limited access but personally I recommend upgrading which cost $49.00 per month or $299.00 if you pay the yearly price. The yearly membership comes out to less than a buck a day which is peanuts considering you’re getting a full training platform and all the tools you need to become successful in the industry. Try doing that sitting in college classes for four years and a bank breaking tuition.
Is this a good fit for people over 50 looking to work for themselves? It was for me and may be for you too.
I can’t say what the best retirement jobs are for over 50 but I will say anyone with half a brain can learn the industry. What’s the job? Doing what I am doing right here. Writing content and promoting products or services. I promote the Wealthy Affiliate platform but you can use the platform to build a website in any niche. Want to sell your own products? You can do it by using Wealthy Affiliate’s platform. It’s easy and it’s free to join. And even if you sign up for the Premium membership it won’t cost you more than $1.00 a day. Not a bad cost for starting your own business.
