Why Is Social Media Important For Business?
Of all the years I have been writing blogs, I came to the conclusion that social media is important for your business. But, I will say one thing I’ve leaned about social media. You have to be careful when using it.
Below are some of the reasons you should not over do it when it comes to using social media.
1 Nobody likes a spammer of their link on social media. And there are ways to avoid this but you have to very careful. If you are using social media use it sparingly and share only to those who may find your content interesting. To share all of your stuff to any group is not going to do much for your business or your social media reputation.
2 Share only after you have helped someone else. This is a personal preference of mine but I try not to just throw my link out even to those who may find my content interesting. If I follow someone on twitter I try and re tweet their posts and even comment on it. You’re going to fare much better on social media if you share others content and comment rather than just spam your link. And if you use this format you may see your link being shared the same way.
3 If you have nothing good to say, don’t say it! One thing I hate is slamming on any social media and it’s really gotten pretty bad. It doesn’t take long to see all the negativity on any social site so it’s best to steer clear of it. I try and only socialize on posts or sites that have positive things going on.
4 Let your followers help you. If you’re in business you want to have your followers see you in a good light. So, let them know you’re there but don’t overdo it. Let your work speak for itself!
Be An Expert In Your Field!
I do a lot of fishing at lakes here in North Carolina. Recently I started going to another lake to fish and while talking to the business owner at the boat house I asked him if he fished. He said “No, I don’t”. I thought that was pretty amazing and to see all of the lures and fishing gear in the place I wondered if he knew anything about anything he was selling.
I have to admit I was pretty taken aback by his statement and I thought about that while fishing. I also thought about how it applied to what I was doing as a blogger. I didn’t start out knowing anything about blogging until I actually started blogging. And what kind of tools do you need as a blogger only came to me by trial and error. I only promote what I believe can help a blogger like what I promote on my products page.

I thought that was pretty interesting to me to hear that the man really didn’t have any interest in fishing. So, using social media I am sure was pretty much out of the question for this guy. Which led me to believe that everything sold was strictly through word of mouth. I mean the place is in the middle of nowhere. Had he had an interest in fishing and used social media I am positive his business would flourish.
Use Social Media As A Way To Connect
When using social media I think it’s more important to use it as a way of connecting with people in your niche than just spamming out your link. And why is social media important for business is because it’s a great way to connect with a lot of people in your niche. But, that doesn’t mean that connecting with these people is a sure fire for a sale. If you use social media to connect with others you will find that your connections may find sales for you.
Personally on my blog I only use a few social media sites. Those would be Twitter, Google Plus and a couple others. I don’t want to use a huge social media skyscraper on my site because it just looks too in your face. By using just a couple I can focus on quality versus quantity and that’s what will bring you long term results!
I also think it’s important when using social media to look long term at your goals when blogging about your business. Just because you put yourself out there doesn’t mean everyone will come running to you to solve their issues.
Take your time as a blogger and understand why social media is important for business but don’t focus solely on it to bring traffic to your site. I really can’t stress that enough. Social media can do wonders for your business but it’s going to be the content that will eventually be your ticket to success. If you can focus on that and continue to build out your website you will find you will fare much better in the end.
